United States Senate Youth Program Important Update: Due to the Covid pandemic continuing to affect the safety of travel, indoor gatherings and access to government buildings, the United States Senate Youth Program Washington Week will be held online during the March 5 — 10, timeframe.

Video: Tips and Tricks for Students on the Application Process Video: Advice for Administrators from a Former Delegate Student candidates must: Meet the eligibility requirements Be the school's sole nominee and obtain the principal's signature on the Statement of Assurance Follow the directions listed on the New Jersey Application Criteria ; Complete the online New Jersey Application Form sample application for reference only Provide a two-page student essay, double spaced, using Times New Roman size 12 font with one-half inch margins, describing: Leadership experiences in a student government, civic or educational organization; Involvement in community, civic engagement and public service activities; Ways in which your passions, motivation or creativity contribute to your school or community; Interest in and desire to learn more about this country's government, history and political processes; Provide a one-page resume describing awards and accomplishments, after-school activities, work experiences, and service to school and community use Times New Roman size 12 font with one-half inch margins ; Provide a press paragraph that should describe student's other leadership positions not position used to qualify for USSYP , academic honors, community service, school and extracurricular activities, and future plans for college and career.

Paragraph should use third person and be no longer than characters may be used for media purposes. Provide a letter of recommendation from the principal ; and a letter of recommendation from the class, student council or organization advisor. Information about student's specific accomplishments as well as evidence of leadership and motivation should be included in recommendation letter.

Student delegates will hear major policy addresses by senators, cabinet members, officials from the Departments of State and Defense and directors of other federal agencies, and they will hear from the president of the United States and a justice of the U.

Supreme Court. To apply, please contact your state selection contact. Washington Week ONLINE will take place March 14 — 18, and will be a fully immersive learning experience incorporating the key elements of the program week in an exciting, interactive format. Students must attend the entirety of the program to receive the scholarship. The primary purposes of the qualifying leadership position must be representation of a constituency and service to others. Any high school junior or senior student is eligible for the program provided he or she has not previously been a delegate to Washington Week and has not received a USSYP scholarship.

Students must be enrolled for the entire academic year in a public or independent high school located in the state and for these purposes the District of Columbia in which at least one of their parents or guardians currently resides. Home-educated students must be approved by their state department of education to apply.
