F Are not currently under any disciplinary or enforcement action from another state EMS office or other recognized state or national healthcare provider licensing or certifying body. Personnel subject to these disciplinary or enforcement actions may be eligible for certification provided there have been no further disciplinary or enforcement actions for five years prior to application for certification in Virginia.

G Have never been subject to a permanent revocation of license or certification by another state EMS office or recognized state or national healthcare provider licensing or certifying body. Convictions include prior adult convictions, juvenile convictions, and adjudications of delinquency based on an offense that would have been, at the time of conviction, a felony conviction if committed by an adult within or outside Virginia.

Emergency calls can range from life threatening issues, such as cardiac arrests or gun shot wounds, to minor complaints, such as sore throats or sprained ankles.

Once on scene with the patient, EMTs efficiently treat any life-threatening issues, such as difficulty breathing or major bleeding. In rural areas, EMTs are a crucial link between the hospital and a widely distributed population. In urban areas, EMTs act in concert with police and firefighters to coordinate life-saving care with major hospital centers. In the field, EMTs work closely with firefighters and police. They often make independent decisions that can mean life or death for the patient.

Employment and volunteer opportunities are available with rescue squads, fire departments, emergency rooms and private industry. There are different levels of training and practice. Job function and salary depend on the credential obtained. We are the oldest accredited Paramedic program in the state and one of the oldest in the country and will continue to provide high quality EMS education for decades to come.

OEMS , which we chose to eliminate secondary to a lack of regional demand. Additionally, the Intermediate level of certification is being eliminated throughout the country by the National Registry of EMTs. We program place all of our students into our EMS A.
