I finally talked my brother into getting anew computer after 8 years and various memory messages. That said,I ordered the computer without an OS, as I have several.
I do some minor repair work and have built 4 computers. It finished the install and rebooted and I get this screen: "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.
I've tried 3 different XP SP3 installation disks with the same results. I tried running MEMTest, but the it would stop after a few seconds and return me to the above screen. As I've said, I've looked at previous posts, and they all seem to happen after the computer has been running for awhile, so there's no outside influence with my installsno virus, no corrupt files since the problem occurred with 3 different installs. Does this sound like a memory problem, harddrive problem, or a board problem?
Any and all resposes will be greatly apprciated. JennyJackson01 Account Closed. Joined Apr 3, Messages Does that sound feasible? Joined Aug 4, Messages 5, I have one as well and it takes a fraction on that time. I would go to the manufactures site and download there diag utility and run a factory certification test on it. You say that you tried 3 different XP SP3 installation disks?
Did you slipstream SP3? When you run Memtest, run it on one stick at a time. This will take some time but if there are bad sticks this is the best way to find the bad one. Joined Jul 2, Messages 2. If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose the Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.
If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or Start Windows Normally First, NONE of these above options work. I have tried hitting F8 on start up. The story: A friend shipped me her hard drive for other reasons can't get her Netscape mail to show up. It was fine when she used it last. I have put it in two known good towers, same thing. I have switched all the jumpers around, just to try it.
I have tried different cables, different electrical outlets I have scanned it for viruses: NO viruses found. I have made it a slave and backed up MyDocs, mail, et cetera. BUT, I want to get it fixed now while I have the time.
My question is: Can I download a Restore Disk? I tried opening Windows in each of these options and it keeps coming back to the same "We apologize for the inconvenience window.
Is there a way out of this? I tried this option with no success. I created the bootable CD with no problem, and changed Bios to boot from CD, restarted the computer booting from the CD a number of times, all to no avail. Spent a lot of time making sure I did everything exactly by the instructions and it still came up "stuck in the loop".
Fortunately, I had done a complete system backup with my backup harddrive in August so I went into the Recovery Console on my computer and did a system recovery which put my computer right back to "Out of the Box" condition.
Of course then I had a bunch of programs to remove which was tedious. Next I restored my computer from the Backup Hardrive which took about 2 hours.
I got everything back exactly as it was a month ago, all my pictures, music, documents, settings, antivurus, Windows Updates, everything! I LOVE my backup harddrive!!!! Got it from HP about three years ago and wondered if it was a waste of money.
